Bluechip User Guide
Using BC Research

1.      Open a patient record.

2.      Click the F10-BC Research button. BC Research is displayed.

The Structure of BCRM

View the diagram below for an understanding of the BC Research data relationship. You should note there are three main tables used by BCRM. For clarity not all fields are shown.

Patients

This table stores the patient's demograpMedicare information and details such as place of birth. The information stored here is in a different format to the patients record in Bluechip.

Keywords

These are created by the practice to suit the needs of your specialty. For the sake of ease of use and later data analysis spend some time planning these.

Clinical Data

This table contains a list of links between patients and keywords. By traversing from left to right in the above example we can see that Mr John Smith (Patient ID 001) has three entries for keywords A1, B1, and T1. Looking these up in the Keywords table we find that he has Green Eyes and bronchitis.

The power of this lays in that it also works from right to left. We can see that only patient ID 004 has brown hair and this patient is Mr John Smith.

Creating and Editing Keywords

1.      From the toolbar select Keywords > Edit Keywords. The Keywords window appears.

2.      Select the keyword to edit by clicking on the record selector at the left of the window the click Edit. The Keywords Subform is displayed.

3.      From here you can change the description of a keyword and assign an ICD10 code to it.

4.      To assign an ICD10 code first define whether it is a diagnosis or a procedure. You can then select the code by either its code or description.

5.      If you are not assigning an ICD10 code then set the code type as 'Other'.

Adding a New Keyword

From the keyword window select 'Add", the window above will appear as before except this time you can enter the new keyword.

Deleting a Keyword.

o      It is not recommended that you delete a keyword unless you have just added it. Deleting a keyword that is already in use will leave clinical records orphaned.

o      If you wish to no longer use a keyword it is recommended that you add a comment such as '*No longer In Use*'.

Opening BC Research from Bluechip

1.      From the patient demograpMedicare Australias page in Bluechip click the button labeled 'Research Module'

2.      If you are using older versions of Bluechip that does not have a Research Module button then use the Day Surgery button.

3.      If a patient record already exists in BCRM you will be presented with a screen as below:

4.      Note how the Filter Icon is depressed indicating that a filter is applied to the records.

5.      At the very bottom of the screen you will see the record navigation bar:

6.      Here it is telling you, that you are looking at record 1 of 1 (filtered). Clicking on the filter icon to turn the filter off will enable all patients to be seen and the navigation bar will change:

7.      You can use the left and right arrows to scroll through the patients.

8.      To return to Bluechip click the Smiley Face Icon. You can do this from any screen in BCRM.

Creating a New Patient Record

o      If you have created a new patient in Bluechip and then call BCRM you will be asked if you wish to create a new Patient Record. If this is what you wish to do click 'Yes'.

o      After you have created a new record you should check the information entered from Bluechip in the demograpMedicare Australias page. You will need to enter the patients country of birth as Bluechip does not record this information. You should also check that the address is a valid street address (no PO Boxes etc).

o      A new patient record can also be created directly by clicking the New Record button in the record navigation area. You should do this only if running BCRM without Bluechip.
